The Cost of Renting Your Own Tools
This post is a placeholder. It stays draft: true until there is a real essay
to put here. A plain npm run build leaves it out of the output; only a
npm run build:drafts build shows it.
Why the shape matters
The layout has to carry long argument, not just short notes. So the template gets exercised with the things an essay actually contains: sections, a list, a pull quote, a code block, and a table.
- A list item reads at the body measure, not the full page width.
- Tags come from frontmatter and drive the tag pages.
- The
sourcefield records where the draft came from.
The point of owning the stack is not that you save money. It is that nobody can change the terms under you.
What a real post will carry
Frontmatter is fixed, so an import never needs a code change:
title: "Some Title"
date: 2026-11-01
description: "One sentence that survives being read alone."
tags: ["AI", "Self-hosting"]
source: grok
draft: true
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
title |
Inferred from the first heading or the first sentence. |
date |
The conversation date, not the import date. |
source |
grok, gemini, or original. |
draft |
Always true on import. Nothing publishes itself. |

Replace this file with the first real essay. Delete it, do not edit it into something else — a placeholder that lingers becomes a lie.
